We seek to create long-term value through safe, innovative and environmentally sound operations.

Our corporate values reflect our purpose and guide our day-to-day conduct as well as providing the foundation of sustainability areas of focus

DEFINING WHAT MATTERS

Refining our materiality

We periodically undertake a sustainability materiality assessment update. This enables us to identify and report on the sustainability topics that (i) Hochschild has the potential to have a social or environmental impact on, and (ii) may create financial risks or opportunities for our business.

We plan to undertake a materiality update every two years. This timeframe ensures that our material topics reflect changes in our business and in the wider external environment, including regulatory developments.

Engaging stakeholders

The aim behind our long-term business strategy is to provide an attractive investment proposition for our shareholders whilst also enhancing value for our customers, employees, suppliers, and local communities. To ensure that both of these objectives are met, we focus our efforts and operational delivery on the areas where we can have the biggest impact, supported by our commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

See how we meaningfully engage with our stakeholders in our Responsibility and Governance section.

Aligning to the UN SDGs

We support the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and recognise that meeting the ambitions they set out will require the co-operation of governments, civil society and businesses around the world. As such, we are working, where possible, to align our efforts to bring about positive social, economic and environmental outcomes that contribute towards achieving the SDGs.

Our strategic focus areas

The Hochschild way is to promote close collaboration with our local communities with full respect for local customs and social dynamics. Our approach to generate positive impact is guided by our Community Relations Policy, which emphasises our dedication to building trust and listening to community concerns. At Hochschild, we consider how our operations may affect the local community, either directly or indirectly; this consideration is formally included within our application for environmental permits, under the Free Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) process.

We are committed to protecting the environment through applying best-in-class environmental management practices. All our activities are guided by the principles set out in our Environmental Policy, continually seeking ways to produce metals with the least possible environmental footprint. Such efforts include improving our consumption of resources, whether through reducing water usage, improving energy efficiency, or increasing the amount of waste that is recycled
